Lice Battle Plan: DIY Tips For a Lice-Free Zone

As the holidays usher in the spirit of travel, believe it or not, this time of year is prime for lice season. Dealing with a lice incident can be stressful, but fear not! A few years ago, I faced a live lice situation, and lucky me my best friend learned how to “delouse” from the "lice lady," she shared some incredible DIY tips that I'm here to pass on. (She also deloused me and the kid) No need for embarrassment – lice can find their way onto backpacks, but we've got a battle plan to send them packing.

1. Containment is Key:

Invest in giant ziplock bags, readily available at most stores. Donate them to the classroom, and have each kid toss in their coats and backpacks. Hang these bags in the closet to create a lice-free zone. After doing this we were lice free for the rest of elementary.

2. Homemade Lice Spray:

Mix up a simple spray using household items. Combine 10 drops of rosemary oil , 3 drops of tea tree oil, and 2 drops of lavender oil to one ounce of water. Add three drops of alcohol for an extra punch. This concoction is an effective and natural way to deter lice. Just a few spritzes can go a long way in keeping these unwanted guests at bay. (Pro tip spray their coats clothes and hair every morning)!

3. Conditioner and Lice Comb Magic:

For an immediate response, generously apply conditioner and use a lice comb. After each pass through the hair, wipe the comb on a wet paper towel. Then fold over the area so each wipe is on a clean area of towel .to ensure you're catching every critter. When your done with the session put the wet paper towels in a ziplock and throw away .Then vacuum the area. This routine, when done daily for at least 5 days, can be a game-changer.

4. Deep Clean Your Environment:

Don't forget your living spaces. Vacuuming, washing sheets, helmets, clothing and even tossing certain items in the trash can help eliminate any lingering lice or eggs.Things that cannot be put through wash can vibe stored in a airtight garbage bag for two days . They require blood to survive and cannot survive more than two days off a host.

Additional Tips:

- Use your own helmets.

- Employ a seat cover on the plane.

Conclusion:

Facing a live lice situation can be daunting, but armed with these DIY techniques, you can take control. Don't hesitate to reach out if you need more tips or have questions. Together, we can ensure those pesky critters stay far away! 🦠✨ #LiceFreeLiving #DIY #TravelSmart
